Welcome to Mental Health Awareness Week 2019! This is a week where people are:
…bringing more attention to mental health problems so that people can better understand mental health issues in themselves and others.
Since 2001, Mental Health Awareness Week has focused on a different theme each year.
This year’s theme is body positivity.
I personally think this is an amazing topic that has been chosen. Body image and the increased need for body positivity is a topic that really resonates with a lot of people. Almost everybody feels some sort of shame or distress that comes with their particular body. We think we know what an ‘ideal body’ looks like – and it usually isn’t ours. I’ve talked about this more on my personal blog, what the log had to say.

For today, I thought that I would chat about some books that look at bodies and how they can affect mental health.
Darius the Great is Not Okay by Adib Khorram
This is a young adult novel that follows Darius, an Iranian boy who has depression. He is also fat (go to this link which explains why we should reclaim the word fat), and this has an affect on his mental health. Throughout the book he has to deal with fatphobia from both his peers and his family.

The Time in Between by Nancy Tucker
